Fall on Film

Fall in Oregon is such a beautiful time. Lovely colors, warm sun with a bit of crisp coolness in the air and leaves and pumpkins everywhere. Of course there's often rain. Lots of rain, but this year, we were lucky enough to have a sunny Halloween, so costumes were on full display, rather than covered in hooded rain coats and boots.

All shots here on Kodak Portra 400, processed and scanned at the FIND lab. Nikon f100, 35mm.

Halloween: I guess we had a nature theme for costumes this year with a deer and a bat. I had a great time making their costumes and even finished in time for a pre-Halloween photo shoot. I started doing this a few years ago and the kids and I have so much fun. They get to wear their costumes more than once and I get to capture fun photos of their costumes without the annoyed eyes rolls because I'm keeping them from their candy. :)
Overall, I'm really pleased with these rolls of film. I'm still struggling a bit with focus, though I'm not sure if I should blame my camera or my eyes. I choose to think it adds a bit of charm to the film. :)

I'm also super pleased with their costumes overall. The deer antlers were really fun and not too difficult. I mostly used this tutorial by Mandy Thomas on YouTube. I found it pretty straightforward and was just the look I wanted. There were extra steps with plaster and paint, but I decided to skip those for time and ease. Bonus that there were flexible enough that they weren't destroyed when they were accidentally stepped on, sat on, etc. :)

Happy Fall to everyone!
